In between rain showers, I scoped the route that the riders would be taking. I finally set myself up, camera in hand on Combes Road and waited for the arrival of the "JAYCO HERALD SUN TOUR". Who knows, I might be the lucky one to get that scoop shot of a rider coming-a-gutsa at high speed, on a slippery wet road. A tangle of bloodied riders and mangled bikes. You know, the front page kinda stuff.
There was a steady procession of Police, officials and team cars streaming past, heading towards Torquay as the tour got closer. I became anxious. This could be the big one! I thought to myself.
As if to signal the arrival of the tour, the sun came out, the road dried up, and before I knew it, the first of the leaders of the tour went cruising past, no acknowledgment that I was standing all alone in at the side of the road to immortalize them with my trusty camera at the ready. Hmm! The rest of the riders followed moments later. Sure, I got a few looks from this lot, you know the kind of "What the?" And then it was all over. Oh well, there's always next year.
